We all know that not all hotels are created equal, even within a particular price range. A hotel doesn’t have to be beautiful, as long as it’s comfortable and clean. But when you find yourself in a hotel like the Hyatt Regency Houston West, it’s such a treat.
Located between Katy, Texas and Downtown Houston and often booked for conferences and weddings, the Hyatt Regency was separated from some of the hustle and bustle, but near a shopping area called City Center, where many delicious restaurants can be found.
Hyatt Lobby
The highlight of the hotel was the beautiful layout of the lobby. A bright wall of windows, soaring the entire five-floor height, overlooked a lovely pond surrounded by greenery. Brightly colored koi swam around in the pond, lending a sense of serenity.
On the other side of the lobby, the restaurant, Cafe on the Lake, serves breakfast and lunch in a garden setting.
Other ammenities at the Hyatt Regency
Aside from the beautiful lobby and the restaurant, much to my delight, I also found a coffee shop where I could get my morning latte and there was a bar which was open in the afternoons and evenings.
The pool had gotten a little too warm during the heatwave, and felt similar to tepid bathwater, but it was still a welcome relief during the heat of the day. On Saturdays, they have food, drinks, and music in the pool area for guests to enjoy.
Other ammenities include a gym (which I did not visit), wifi, and business services.
Things I particularly loved about the Hyatt Regency Houston West
Of course, I’ve told you that I loved the lobby, but I also appreciated the friendly, helpful staff. From allowing us to check in early, giving us emergency toothpaste rations when we lost ours, and recommending places to visit, every hotel employee I came in contact with went above and beyond to make my stay a pleasant one.
The hotel is pet friendly, and not just accepting guests with pets, but going the distance with a sign welcoming pets with a water bowl.
One big thing for me, is I can’t abide smelly, scented sprays; they send my sinuses into a tizzy. I loved the nice, scent-free environment in the lobby and in my room.
And, most importantly, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The air conditioner worked and I slept like a baby.
Questionable things (which I could probably have inquired about but didn’t bother)
Our toilet paper holder kept falling off the wall. (Shrugging) I just set the toilet paper on the bathroom counter. The enormous, flat screen television looked great, but the remote would not do anything other than turn it on, so we couldn’t watch it and I was unable to figure out how to use the coffee maker. The refrigerator wasn’t cold and sported a sign saying that it wouldn’t keep perishable food from spoiling. All slight annoyances but not really a big deal.
