As the trail climbs with twists and turns, the river descends in a never-ending series of waterfalls. Our destination, the 272 foot Watson waterfall, plummets into a pool that continues cascading over rock formations all the way down, approximately 500 feet, alongside the trail’s elevation gain. It seems like one waterfall after another, so refreshing and beautiful.
Watson Falls is a big, impressive waterfall found in Douglas county, Oregon. The trail to the fall, however; makes it the best one we have seen. My brother called it nature’s amusement park and in this case, the journey is definitely as impressive as the destination. There is the lush landscape that Oregon provides; so many shades of green. The trail winds around giant boulders. A mammoth log is cut in half to make way for the path. A zig zag bridge crosses the cascading miniature waterfalls. A tiny forest of moss-covered rocks that look like mushrooms pop up unexpectedly.
There is so much to look at that the one-mile loop seems to go by in an instant, although it actually took us an hour with all of our gawking and taking photos. The additional trail that goes up to three more view points is definitely worth the effort. It is a little steep and muddy but the views are spectacular and the mist would be cooling on a hot day.
We were disheartened to descend on the other side of the loop, where we couldn’t see the water, getting just a small glimpse as we exited the forest. Nevertheless, on a crowded day you might not want to descend the way you came up. The trail is beautiful and engaging on the way down, although less dramatic.

Thanks for bringing us to Watson Falls with you. This reminds me of some places in East TN, and I grew very fond of the foothills and mountains as a teenager.
Thanks Jon! I will have to put East TN on my bucket list!
